Chamber awesome if you can afford it, but it is a ripoff for the price of scammers By J. MACLEAN The three main factors for me, makes this camera (2 of them apply to the D300) are so amazing. . . so, the full frame sensor (finally), the leading low-noise/high ISO performance. . . and extraordinary color! The photographer has much greater control over color than ever before and the results are impressive (the use of image control). And the noise (the digital equivalent of film grain) is at least a 2-stop improvement in the previous D2x. In fact, it is likely that 3 points, but they say that 2 to be conservative. Believe it or not, ISO 6400 is really useful! (The D300 is a minor point)
While the features are the most weight in my opinion, there are plenty of others who are a great advantage, such as:
~ 9 frames per second ~ 51 AF points :: Watch Live ~ 12 MP CMOS sensor, auto-cleaning on D300 ~ A new LCD 3 "- about 4 times the previous resolution LCDs.
The list is endless, but you should read the technical and professional exams. Suffice to say, is loaded with features and handles like an absolute dream!
Compared to the $ 8000 Canon's professional models, this camera has a distinct advantage. Sure you lose some megapixels compared with the Mark III, but that is not important for most (but not all) photographers.
Another thought. . . While this is a good deal at $ 4999 compared to the Canon, you can get almost the same camera for $ 1799 with the D300. If you do not need a full frame. . . or 1-stop extra high ISO, the D300 offers around 90 - 95% of the features and performance of the D3 for 40% of the price! If you want to get the best possible image quality at the lowest possible price, consider the D300 and put the difference ($ 3,200) in some of the great new Nikon professional goals.
As of this writing in January 2008 that is listed on Amazon for $ 6399 through Cameta Camera. Please do not buy at this price and is allowed to be exploited by the status of orders. Instead, pre-paid $ 4999 for your local store camera puts you ahead of everyone else on the waiting list is limited to making deposits in it. Or wait for it here on Amazon. Again, $ 4999! That is the price. No need to pay an extra $ 1400 "fee of fools" and that only for a couple of weeks or perhaps within a month or two. You've survived so far without the D3, so you can make it a little more - just do not pay more than retail. $ 4999! $ 4999. $ 4999. Get the point? :-)

I realize this is now being sold by 17th Street Photo, which I have not done business, but unless you are charging the correct price * $ 4999. First there was a marked $ 1400, $ 500, and it is good to see that attempts to manipulate prices appears to be waning.

How times change - the speculation is gone, like pending orders. The price has dropped below $ 4500 I see. My opinion of this camera has not changed in the 11 months since I got my hands on it, and is as good as it ever was, but now with the introduction of the D700, I would have difficulty moving from approximately 4300 dollars that are now sold, when the D700 sells for $ 2699. The D3 is better built, and shoots 9 fps vs 8 fps for the D700 with battery, but I do not see it being worth the additional cost of $ 1600 unless you are a professional who shoots every day.
