What Nikon D3100 is excellent ($ cheap) VS. D300 ($ 1,600) VS. D700 ($ 2,700): * Lens = The D3100 is the only camera that comes with a lens on the normal price * ISO = Performance Tie between D3100 and D700! (It may be processing new Nikon, but the JPEG looks fantastic in 6400iso D3100 was filming with very little noise at all) * Focus in low light = D700 * Speed of approach = D700 * External buttons and controls for professionals = D700 * Navigation menu = D3100 * Ease of use = D3100 * Megapixel D3100 = (14.2) * Sensor size = D700 (Much more important than megapixels but I will not enter this) * You can use lenses with greater functionality = D700 and D300 * Video = D3100, of course! 1080p video looks amazing. * Frame Rate = D300 at 6 frames per second * Weight = D3100 (light as a feather) * Ergonomics = D700 (big enough for all my fingers)
Lens: The lens is a lens kit, will work out, but not so great in low light. The reduction of vibration in the interior, but it will help reduce vibration can not prevent a child or pet inside the movement. Consider buying a 35 mm 1. AFS 8DX for about $ 200 and you will be very happy with this camera.
Video: I bought the 3100 specifically to record video, so I put new Nikon 85mm 1.4 g Nano and video shot with him. The lens costs more than twice the camera, but I wanted to see how the 1080p seemed. It looks like a film. After 85mm, put on my Nikon 50 1.2 manual focus lens capable of taking video was very cinematic in manual mode. To make it brighter or darker than is necessary to use a very old lens like the 50mm 1.2 and press the AE-L (auto exposure lock) and make changes at the opening of the exhibition. Or you can press the AE-L to get the exposure you'll like. Not a perfect system, but it works well for me. Jello Cam (What is not so great): This camera still suffers from the "Jello Cam" look at the video if it is on a tripod and they are deficient. The video can be viewed as gelatin if it moves too fast. Use a tripod or monopod when shooting to avoid this. I'm not sure if a more rapid rate 60 fps video to help - but at 24 and 30 who may suffer badly.
Conclusion: This is an incredible offer! Unless you make most of their income from photography or have a stockpile of old lenses (the camera can only autofocus with AFS objectives), this camera is the camera must be the year. If you have good composition skills and an eye for the light you can take pictures worthy of a magazine with this. Seriously, do not regret buying this camera. When you do, do yourself a favor and buy an additional lens Nikon AFS has a maximum aperture of 2.8, 1.8 or 1.4. These lenses will be best portraits and much better in low light than the kit lens.
