Vogt My concern is that people pick this DSLR in the store and try and then drive the D3100, D3100 to automatically assume a simple digital SLR camera body construction alone. The plastic body feels (and is) cheap. And, unfortunately, be hard to beat for a lot of people. Textured grip is not a regrettable omission. In the entry level is not expected of all alloy body sealing time or magnesium, but most of the others (Kx Pentax, Nikon D3100) at least are constructed of materials and have a little better grip texture. The positive side for the body is shiny plastic that makes lightweight DSLR. In fact, probably the lightest I've shot with DSLR.

The controls are fairly straightforward in this chamber. And I always like the Canon menu system, very intuitive. It controls a lot of car for novice photographers, but of course has a full set of manual controls, so it is ideal for students or people in general who want to learn photography and want a camera that can grow. In terms of performance, this digital SLR has impressed me. General operation is very fast shot to shot times are decent, and the autofocus is very fast. I worked with the D3100 too ... and I can safely say that the Rebel T3 which amounts to nearly all fronts (I'm sure I'll catch hell for the people of Nikon for that).

The display is 95% coverage and is not the best, but I found it to be satisfactory. And despite the relatively low screen resolution of 230k, I found something visible screen in direct sunlight and better than the D3100. Again, it is not wonderful, but not as bad as some I've seen (the worst was the Pentax Kx). They have also improved the 7 AF points to 9 points Rebel XS.

A movement that was very smart of Canon is to keep the number of megapixels in a modest 12 megapixels. And, curiously, seems to work better with the kit lens supplied some of the high-end siblings. The combination of the kit lens and 12 MP sensor leads to the picture quality (especially sharpness up a bit on the camera settings) - and this camera will be happy to roll with the low-end Canon lenses with some very decent results. One complaint I have is, due to the construction of lightweight plastic body, it tends to be out of balance over time, heavier lenses. I realized this when I attach the EF-S 55-250 lens on it. It may not be a dealbreaker for everyone, but some people might find this irritating. The colors are very striking, but not to the point of supersaturation. Do not say it's certainly better than the D3100 for image quality, but at least games. And for the most part you can get a clear picture of this digital SLR up to ISO 1600, which is impressive.

Regarding the film mode is, it is only 1280x720 HD, but in fact the video quality is excellent. However, the manual controls are very limited. If you are in equal parts on the pictures and movies, consider the Rebel T3i or 60d on it, however, as those with manual controls much wider range of video recording.

So overall, if you can overlook the rather cheap plastic construction, this is a formidable entry level DSLR that is suitable for beginning photographers, and even professionals looking for a lightweight companion to your regular equipment.
